Drabble Wednesday: My Dark Valentine

Three spooky Valentines for this February 14th. Enjoy.

Happy Valentine Card

A Ghost in Time

The local legends say her sobbing ghost walks the craggy cliffs above the bay when the sunset fades against the ocean’s horizon, and the warm Caribbean breezes cool towards the twilight hours. Her sorrow echoes off the beaches below, heart-wrenching wails vanishing into the ocean. Some say she was a sailor’s wife, some say an abandoned wife, or a poor murdered girl. Who knows, her name has been lost to time.
Or has it? Perhaps not.
For, if you listen closely on those moon-soaked nights, you may hear her whisper a name, Edmundo, and the sea will murmur back, Isabella

The Widow

Romantic candlelight and soft music, and the tempting scent of dinner wafting from the kitchen with a special chocolate cake for dessert. She waits for her valentine, another chance at love, and he does not disappoint.
A meal, a flirtatious tête-à-tête, and then dessert. After that, who can say? She brings out the cake; she spent most of yesterday preparing it. A large slice for him, a smaller slice for her. She watches as he eats while she toys with her piece. As he slumps unconscious, she smiles and picks up the cake knife.
Now the true fun begins.

Love Beyond Death

A crow circled the cemetery as the moon emerged to shine against the night sky. From beyond, music played, and the trees swayed overhead in rhythm. An ethereal glow drifted over the graves, beckoning to the shades of the dead. From death’s embrace two ghosts arose, hands outstretched to each other, drawn together under the moon.
And they danced, lost in the love denied to them when they lived, danced in the bond they shared, but never expressed. This night was theirs, but as the sun rose they separated, as they did in life, and returned to their eternal heartbreak.
