Drabble Wednesday: Dark Days

Three more drabbles for you today.

The Women

In the darkness they raged, the collective voice of bloodied ghosts. Howling generations of repressed pain, eons of abuse, screams reverberating transformation from the void. Echoes from the abyss, from victim to victim, weaving their words into flesh and bone.
“We are here. We never left.”
From history they shout, “If you want war, you shall have war! Look upon the face of women’s rage. Look upon the monsters you created.”
From the shadows they emerged, thousands upon thousands, and with sword, and claw, and poisoned fang, they wrote their story in blood.
Only this time, the blood wasn’t theirs.

Sheep and Wolves

“The last patient of the day is waiting, sir.” The nurse smiled her fake smile; all professionalism and no warmth.
“Another chip insertion?” The doctor frowned. “Voluntarily or involuntarily?”
“Voluntarily, sir. They’re in procedure room two.”
“Lead the way.” The doctor followed the nurse, muttering, “Stupid sheep. Imagine volunteering for a free will removal.”
Fifteen minutes later, the patient was wheeled into recovery. The doctor sighed. “I hate the voluntaries.”
“We know, sir.”
He felt the needle prick and then the paralysis. The nurse smiled.
“We also know about your underground clinic. Don’t worry, your chip insertion will be involuntary.”

Consequences

“So you come, seeking to remain friends?” The old man snorted. “I think not.”
“But why? We just have a difference of opinion.” The younger man seemed surprised.
“As deep a fool as ever, I see. This is no difference of opinion, but a betrayal.” The old man sighed. “We had a sacred duty, you and I, but you strayed, put your trust in a corpulent maggot of a false God, instead of true Faith. You may leave now.”
“Will we never be friends again?”
“Forgiveness may come one day. It will depend on how much blood fills the streets.”
