Drabble Wednesday: Moon Madness

Another three stories with a little murder and magic under the moon. Enjoy.

Doomsday

On the edge of the world, he stared at the moon as the sky exploded in crimson fire. He spoke one word, and the earth cracked beneath his feet, splitting wide as he hovered in the pungent smoky air.
All around him, screams echoed and voices called his name; some begged his mercy, and others cursed his existence. He ignored them all.
Another word and the mountains quaked, some spewing molten rock and ash and he slowly tore the world apart with the sound of his voice. When nothing but death and shattered rock remained, he smiled at the moon.

Hanging

Under the moonlight, the body creaked on the gallows, swinging in the wind, left as a warning to other would-be criminals. They’d cut the poor man down eventually, but for now, he served as a ghoulish decoration. A message that the town refused to support the lawless element and took swift action against murderers. A righteous act in the face of evil.
Yes, the town slept peacefully in its morality, thinking they’d brought a killer to justice, with the sheriff sleeping best of all. After all, hadn’t he saved his son from those gallows by successfully framing an innocent man?

Under the Moon

Illuminated by moonlight, the thief saw an old man sitting by the front door. Surprised, he halted; the house was supposed to be empty, the owners travelling to the market.
The old man turned and smiled, white teeth glistening. “Such a dark heart, but I like that. It’s what drew me here.”
The thief backed away, a shiver chasing down his spine. “I don’t know what you mean, I just took a wrong turn.”
“You can run, but there’s no escape.”
The thief fled, words chasing him…
“Dragons can fly, you know.”
Overhead the thief heard the beating of wings.
