Drabble Wednesday: The Pets Wrap Things Up

The conclusion of The Rise of Vegetables Saga (or maybe it was The Return of Le Pingouin Noir). Enjoy.

Reintegration

“Hold still! Stop squirming!” Doctor Quackenboss snapped as he and Fluffy tried to re-adjust the controls on Oswald’s helmet.
“I can’t!” Oswald wailed. “I can’t control my body anymore!”
“Here let me help.” Fluffernutter jumped on top of Oswald, stretched out and started to purr. Oswald’s body immediately calmed and stopped twitching.
From the corner, Eric whispered, “Cat magic.”
Fluffy connected the final wire and sat back on his haunches. “Well, that should do it. Just reverse the polarity and we’ll see if it works.”
The animals scrambled away from Oswald and flipped a switch.
“Wait! What—”
Sparks flew everywhere…

There’s a Glitch

“Collywoggle! Flibbertigibbet! Man the lifeboats!” Oswald yelled gibberish and flailed his hands. Sparks flew off the helmet and he sat straight up, ripping off the offending headgear.
As the astounded animals looked on, Oswald jumped from his chair and danced, first a jig and then interpretative jazz, all the while shouting, “Coconuts have water in them! Canoe! Canoe!”
Halfway through this bizarre display, Fluffy screamed, “What’s going on?”
“I think it’s a dissociative cognizance malfunction,” replied Doctor Quackenboss.
“How do we fix it?”
“Scare him.”
Hearing that, Eric flapped his wings and leapt at Oswald’s face, who screeched and collapsed.

What to Do with Oswald

“Well, that wasn’t pleasant.” Oswald blinked a few times and rubbed his temples. “But I thank you strange chicken for snapping me out of…whatever that was.” Eric preened under the praise.
“What is going on?” Frankie burst through the door.
Doctor Quackenboss stepped forward. “This chap was in a bit of bother, brought on by that virus, and we assisted him.”
“Assisted Le Pingouin Noir? Wait, why aren’t you with the flying monkeys?”
“I came home.” Oswald sighed. “I suppose I have to go to jail now.”
“Um, no. Corporate never pressed charges. Hey, you want a job?”
Everyone stared.
