Day Twenty-One – National Poetry Month: Morbid Bones

Here is a cascade poem for today from the prompt Morbid Bones. Enjoy.

Morbid Bones

Festering beneath the layers of decay
lie the morbid bones, in their shallow grave
Unmarked, alone, neglected below desolation

One of the missing, one more dusty file
lost in the endless chaos of the cold case
festering beneath the layers of decay

One act of violence, a thousand deceits
etched in the structure of time; and forever
lie the morbid bones, in their shallow grave

While the family hopes, and grieves the loss,
secrets stay buried and the dead rest patiently,
unmarked, alone, neglected below desolation
