Drabble Wednesday: Despair and Darkness

Three more drabbles today. Some madness, revenge, and a touch of eldritch horror. Enjoy.

Morality

“Do you want me to burn it all down?”
I don’t look at them as I speak, my finger rubbing the side of the detonator, but I hear the frightened whimpers. One man replies, “No.”
I look at him, my lone, brave hostage. His face is defiant, so I shoot him in the head. The blood spatter makes a pretty pattern on the wall. I ignore the screams of the others.
“Wrong answer, for the world needs to be cleansed. A righteous punishment, one that will start here. With me, with us.”
I push the button and unleash the fire…

Acts

Nestled in the raven darkness, beyond the church bell’s chime, they beckon, those wandering whispers of the wild wood. They tell of days abandoned, of wilting roses on a summer’s day, of the last kiss before the knife twisted.
You know their pain, that singularity of betrayal, of hollow promises wrapped in a faded trousseau. They are your brethren of experience, of mocking laughter swathed in lies, yet you are not them.
You are not the same.
For your whispers smell of his blood. It is your knife that twisted, in that sweet act of revenge for all of you…

Stars

You won’t understand. Not until you listen to the infinite abyss gnawing, gnawing at our bones as we scream. I hear the shrieks of the dying universe within the maw of creation.
They are out there in the stars waiting for the termination.
They slither in the cracks, wrapped in vapour, putting thoughts in our heads. Madness really, obscene things, hideous things, carnage and blood, and despair. You can’t fight, no, no. You can try, but in the end, all you can do is howl as the thoughts consume you, leaving an empty shell filled with the desire to obey.
