A Coffee Morning

“‘Tis Halloween, ‘tis Halloween, where chocolate candy is the cuisine. Where ghouls and goblins roam the streets, and tiny ghosts appear under sheets.”
I glanced up from the blissful aroma of my morning coffee to see Frankie dancing with a broom. I ignored him and took a sip of my delicately brewed elixir.
“You’re not going to ask me what I’m doing?” Frankie sounded shocked.
“Nope.”
“Why not?”
“Don’t care. I just want my coffee.”
“You’re no fun this morning.”
“Did you fix that game Corporate wanted?”
“You know I did. I finished yesterday.”
“Then go play with your duck.”

Party Time

“Nice floating pumpkins!”
Frankie walked in as I finished the last of the party decorations. I stared. He was dressed in a bizarre outfit of pink, red, and yellow layers.
“What are you wearing?”
“My costume. I’m going as the latest food craze. The sushi taco. And Fluffernutter is coming as the wasabi sauce.”
“Well, that’s certainly scary.”
“I know, right? We are the fusion that stalks the night. We are the heartburn that ruins your meal.” Frankie grinned as I rolled my eyes. “What’s your costume?”
“The scariest of all. I’m going as one of Corporate’s idea men.”
“Nooooo!”

Ghost Story

Everyone, humans, pets, even the zombie cows, were gathered around the virtual bonfire.
“It was a stormy Halloween night.” I paused, pressing a button for the thunder sound effects, and my audience jumped. “Through the empty halls of Corporate came the whispers of the undead, the denizens of the abandoned games, the broken code, the moaning ghosts of the machine…” More sound effects filled the room with groans.
“It is said every Halloween they roam the virtual network…”
Another button triggered the screeching holographic phantoms, and they surged from the fire. Everyone screamed as I doubled over laughing.
“Happy Halloween!”
