Three more spooky drabbles for you today. Enjoy.

Spirits
I am as air and moonlight, naught but silver wisps of illumination floating on a breeze. Aimless and free, twisting within ethereal spaces, against the cracks of time as the world revolves around me. A translucent wraith unbound, searching, torn and homeless, beckoned here and there by whispers, by hope.
In vain, until now.
A voice in the darkness, light and energy, flesh and spirit, whose curiosity is her undoing. She senses me, gets too close and I devour her, burning away her soul from within, becoming host to her empty flesh.
She is gone, but I rejoin the world.
Ghosts
Two knocks, not three.
That’s safe enough. A ghost maybe, but no reason to run, not yet. I move through the house. A few flickering lights. Nothing but parlour tricks. An odd whisper in a few rooms. I’d breathe a sigh of relief, if I could still breathe.
He hasn’t followed me here. The only thing in this abandoned building are a few stray spirits. Good. It’s nice to have a few moments of peace. I’ve been running so long, fleeing my inevitable end.
Thump, thump, thump.
Three knocks pound on the front door.
The Collector has found me again.
Phantoms
She’s standing on the train tracks, same as that day, hair flowing, that strange smile on her face. Only this time I’m not screaming at her to get off the tracks, that a train is coming.
This time I understand.
She knew the train was coming back then, and she knows now.
I hear the whistle, the screech of brakes, but nothing’s there but a rush of wind and her scream.
I turn away, another anniversary of her death remembered. I couldn’t save her, but at least I can keep what’s left of her company in her own private hell…
