Drabble Wednesday: Crimes of the Heart

Three more drabbles today with some tainted love. So enjoy. And sorry for the sporadic posting, things have been crazy busy these days.

Flattery

I can still hear his voice, “Such a lovely girl, sitting all alone. Come dance with me.”
Innocent words, flattering, enough to lure an unsuspecting, naive girl, who didn’t understand she was one of many. Neither of us understood.
Why didn’t I warn her? Tell her, Don’t listen to his pretty sentiments, his hollow words. They’re a candy-coated shell full of air that will turn bitter with time.
I should have protected her.
Now, I can only avenge her.
So, I watch him. Waiting to draw the knife across his throat and let his lies bleed out with his life.

Demanding

My father taught me men must be forceful, assert their right to take what they want from life. So I demanded respect, insisted my wife stay home and my children obey. I required dinner to be ready on my schedule, that the house be neat and tidy.
I was king in my world.
I don’t understand why they won’t listen anymore. Despite demanding to be let out of this basement, screaming for them to obey, pounding on the door until my knuckles were raw, I’m still here… Wait, the door is opening.
“No! I demand you stop! Don’t shoot—”
Bang.

Ladies Night

“Buy me a drink, handsome.”
A wink accompanied my flattery and I hoped, as soused as he was, the guy hitting on me would eat it up. He did, and I got a free whiskey out of him. I was all set to make my proposition when he gagged and raced for the bathroom.
“Not a fellow that can hold his liquor.”
A voice as smooth as my whiskey sounded behind me, and then a handsome face smiled at me. My night was looking up. This one was red-blooded and fine.
Everything a vampire is looking for in a meal.
