Day One – National Poetry Month: Clockwork

It’s that time of year again and today begins National Poetry Month 2025. Once again, I’ll be writing a poem a day from a list of prompts, and today’s prompt is Clockwork. It’s a short poem to start us out, but I hope you enjoy it.

Also, there will be two posts tomorrow: the poem, plus the cover and title reveal for my paranormal cozy mystery. The poem will drop in the morning with the reveal post in the afternoon.

Clockwork

Whirring wheels, those gears and cogs,
mechanical innards turning movement
against the smiles of delighted patrons

Perform for us, little doll

I danced for them, my painted face
hiding all the humiliation, as my body
entertained their voracious desire
