Shades of Winter

Shiver against the hush, as the snow falls, drifting softly along the strands of wind. The land withers in the icy clutch of rime, buried under the frozen tears of seasons lost. Life retreats beyond the cold, huddling elsewhere for meager warmth, for survival.
They howl and curse at grey skies, at the bitter breeze that now frosts the trees. There is no escape, no way out, only through. Each endures as they always have, hoping to outlast the season, to brave the elements only when they must, knowing some may fall.
This is the time of winter…
Fear it.

After Death

Souls.
Such pitiful things, confused, afraid, milling beneath my presence; some don’t even realize they are dead. They all ignore me. I am only a statue to them, or so they believe. They’ll learn, but for now I watch.
The more aggressive are complaining or shouting orders. Others remain silent or cower. They are the smart ones. Too bad they had no sense in life. Oh, some violence now, shoving and punching. I tire of the show, it’s time.
I stand, rising from my throne, my stone body creaking. The room falls silent.
“Welcome, unworthy dead. Prepare to be punished.”

Shattered Moon

The ghosts of starlight waft across the night, small echoes of her sorrow. The Goddess of the Moon weeps against the darkness, her radiance dimming across time, as she mourns the betrayal of her love.
Once, she illuminated the night with her beauty, a glow to light the way, a constant beacon of her faith and loyalty. Enamoured, the Sun God wooed her, but soon became bored, casting her aside. Her light fractured, the totality of her glow spinning into pieces, a fraction of the magnificence she formerly bestowed.
Now, it is only on one night that she truly shines.
