Adoring Insults

A brandy cocktail
and the cutting laughter
Adoring insults
as your friends look on

Out on the town
A subtle roving eye
Adoring insults
as she watches you

Too much wine
and fewer invitations
Adoring insults
as hearts turn bitter

Familiarity out of style
Resentful recriminations
Adoring insults
as bonds shatter like glass
