Three more dark drabbles after a break last week. Enjoy.

Revenge is a Bitter Dish
It is over. I stand here on the cliff’s edge, watching the ocean under the morning sun, waiting for the poison to do its work. It will be swift, quicker than the death I gave my hated enemy, and soon I will be reunited with my love.
I have avenged us both, my darling, stood over your murderer and watched him expire slowly, choking on his own vomit and writhing in pain. I sipped some of his whiskey as he begged me for help.
As he died, I laughed.
Now I want only to see you again, beyond this world.
Duty
Doubt creeps around my resolve, as it should. This is a grave decision fraught with consequence. Yet, the Sisters of the Moon entrusted me with the task. They have faith in me. I cannot let them down. What I do is right.
It is my duty to reawaken the demons of the underworld.
It is my duty to unleash fire on our enemy.
It is necessary, but I can grieve for the world, for the dead to come.
Including me.
My sacrifice will save the Sisters of the Moon and their followers.
And they have promised to remake the world…
The Assignment
It was a monument to pride, this mansion on the hill. A house of excess, built with the blood and sweat of others. Guarded by the dark arts and demons, or so the whispers of the locals would have you believe. And you should believe them.
I knew the job was a challenge, even for one of my skills.
Still, I had my own secrets, and my pet raven was kind enough to retrieve the key I needed. I managed the mission well enough, with one miscalculation.
Killing the owner sealed up the exits, and the demons are closing in…
