Today is the last day for October Frights and I’m showcasing my upcoming release, Fairy Tales and Nightmares. This horror fantasy fairy tale collection will be out this month and here is a little preview.
Fairy Tales and Nightmares
Sometimes happily ever after just means surviving…
Nine fairy tales reimagined within the worlds of horror, history and mythology.
What if the Wicked Queen fell in love with Snow White? Or if Sleeping Beauty’s curse came with a beast? And how far would someone go to avenge their family or escape to freedom?
Gone are the damsels in distress and the heroic princes, this is the grim world of folklore where monsters roam or a princess can be the champion of her own fate. No one is coming to save these characters, but they’ll fight their way out of madness and terror or die trying.
This book upturns your favourite tales and retells them with a horror spin, weaving them into such diverse historical settings as feudal Japan, the ancient Roman Empire, and Celtic Ireland.
Fairy Tales and Nightmares is an electrifying collection that harkens back to fairy tale origins and will haunt your dreams.

Excerpt from Winter’s End
A flurry of snow whipped against her lined face, driven by the frigid, blustering wind. Cold soaked into her old bones through the layers of fur and wool that wrapped her shambling body, and she grunted in pain. Adjusting the strap of the bag slung over her shoulder eased some discomfort, but each step through the frozen wasteland hurt. Yet, she knew her way and she was stubborn.
The wind tickled a strand of hair peeking out from beneath her hood before it whispered, “Why have you come, Gerda? Why have you ventured into the snow? Go back, go back to your fire. Kai is gone. There is no one left to save.”
Gerda brushed at her cheek and grunted again. “You are right. There is no one left to save. That is why I am here.”
The wind fell silent and swirled away across the frozen landscape. The icy flakes fell softer, a quiet blanket of serenity descending from the sky as Gerda trudged forward. Glacial air enveloped her, but could not compare to the frost on her soul.
Once, the world sparkled for her, the taste of it something to be savoured, and the promise of the city beckoned with an expectation of prosperity and happiness. Marriage vows sealed that promise; a pledge to honour and a home to cherish. Until his reproachful words and contemptuous looks stained the lustre and pricked against her skin. Doubts slithered from dark corners, feeding off her husband’s censure and scorn.
Her insecurity grew fat on his arrogance, his sense of dominance, and in consequence, she withered, bowed to his will, shrunk her entire world to their unhappy marriage. Yet she nurtured a hopeful spark, kindled it within banked embers, that he would love her. For that hope she ignored his nature, pretending their symbiosis made a bigger whole. She was wrong. Their life, their marriage, was nothing to him, and he easily tossed her aside like rubbish.
It was then her last glimmer of warmth died.
