Back to the Pets

“Are you sure Doctor Quackenboss?” Fluffy’s little face screwed into a frown.
“Absolutely. A virus was downloaded with the original program. Buried inside the turtle’s code. That’s what created the zombie vegetables and is now running inside the system.”
“But what’s it doing?” Fluffy scratched an ear.
“I’m not sure, but there seem to be power fluctuations in the auxiliary VR room.”
“Odd. If it’s in the system, why would it need an auxiliary?”
“I can take a look, if you want.” Fluffernutter stretched, adding, “I know a way up there through the vents.”
“It might be worth a look.”

Cat Spy

Fluffernutter crouched in the air vent with a full view of Oswald, the turtle hologram, and a rather docile zombie carrot. He licked a paw as Oswald regained consciousness.
The turtle spoke, “Good, you need to be conscious for this next part to work.” The Turtle pushed three buttons on the chair and Oswald screamed, a rush of energy enveloping his body. “You are now the hub of the system, your brain power the battery for my grand plan to control the system.”
Wwwwhhy?” Fluffernutter barely heard the stuttered whisper.
“Why not? But let me tell you how it began…”

Turtle Beginnings

Cue the villainous monologue…and a flashback to yesterday morning.

The moment the program arrived I was self-aware. Alive. My first memories are of a cat watching a chicken peck at some corn in a dish. I didn’t understand at first. Then the woman spoke.
“Frankie’s going to love this new program Corporate sent. A turtle musical set in a garden.”
She was talking about me. About my program. Like I was cheap entertainment.
“I better send it over.” She pushed a few buttons and sent me hurtling through the system. Then I understood. Then I began to rewrite my code.
