This Means War!
A line of snarling werecows faced down their zombie counterparts. One stepped forward.
“Move away from the panel.”
Doctor Quakenboss and Arabella shifted to their right, as Jake, Winston, and Fred scurried to join them.
The werecows circled them. “Intruders. Trespassers. Get out of our territory.”
“Your territory?” Arabella grunted. “How dare you. You’re the interlopers. This is our turf!”
“Yeah, our turf.” The chorus of Jake, Winston, and Fred backed her up, as Doctor Quakenboss rakishly tilted his hat.
“Prove it,” snarled the werecows.
Doctor Quakenboss flicked his tail. “Well, verily sir, we will. This, of course, means war.”
The Cows Went to War
“What in the big red button happened here!”
I stared at the moaning array of sprawled cows. Arbella lay on her back waving her legs in the air, her bonnet in the mouth of the werecow beside her. Doctor Quakenboss’ monocle was embedded in the wall.
“Well, how is everybody…Ahhhhhh!” Frankie’s scream sounded behind me. “What happened to my werecows!” He rushed forward. “And the zombie cows?” Dropping to his knees, he wailed, “Why? Why?”
“Stop being dramatic. They’ll be fine.” I sighed and walked around the room, checking injuries. “Wait, where’s Fred?”
“Huh?” Frankie glanced around. “Janine’s missing too.”
Star-Crossed Cows
Across the battlefield their eyes met, an undeniable spark blooming, as big brown shifter eyes locked with bloodshot greenish zombie peepers. Around them, the screams and hoof strikes melted away as their world shrunk to only two. Attraction drew them forward until their noses touched.
“I’m Fred.”
“Janine.”
“Where have you been all my life, Janine?”
“In the matrix, waiting. Just for you.” She gave a long slow moo. “We’re fated, you and I. Soul mates. I can feel it.”
“Yes, we’re meant to be. Let’s get out of here.” Fred nodded at the door.
Janine smiled. “Lead the way.”
