Three interim drabbles today as I figure the next installment of the cows vs. cows saga. Enjoy.

Night Terror

Tap, tap, tap.
I heard it in my sleep, piercing through my dreams like a pulse banging about my brain.
Tap, tap, tap.
Sharp, rhythmic, pulling me into the realm of the conscious. My eyes opened, still blind in the darkness, my thoughts groggy. I fumbled for the light; the soft illumination in the cabin made me blink.
l searched, found nothing until I glanced at the porthole. Shadows moved in the water, bumping against the glass. I switched off the lamp, and as my eyes adjusted, I saw. A hand floated outside the glass.
Tap, tap, tap.
I screamed.

Stalker

They wouldn’t believe me.
My friends.
I knew something waited in cyberspace. Some monster, always watching me. Every time I turned on a device, its presence lurked. Sometimes I heard its murmuring voice in my head.
I confided in them, but they laughed. Called me crazy.
So, I showed them…
They weren’t laughing anymore.
The monster had them, trapped in cyberspace. Inside my head, I heard it laughing as my friends screamed. On screens, I saw images of the torture it inflicted on them. Horrible things.
They’d die soon.
But I won’t.
Not if I kept giving it more victims.

Discovery

“Why is the wall bleeding?”
An odd question, I know, but a stain of vivid red seeped down the paint in a dripping pattern. You couldn’t call it anything but bleeding.
My realtor didn’t have an answer. I hoped she was surprised. I hated to think she tried to sell me a house with a bleeding wall.
“Did you know?”
“What?”
“About the wall?”
She shook her head.
I sighed, returning to my car, coming back with a tire iron. A few minutes later, sure enough, I found a body in the wall.
Being a supernatural murder magnet really sucked.
