Day 14 – National Poetry Month: One Candle

Today’s poem is a sad one, a pantoum from the prompt, One Candle.

One Candle

I asked my true love,
leave a candle burning for me
To the heavens above,
against the far rolling sea

Leave a candle burning for me
while I dream forever of you
Against the far rolling sea
with this long wandering crew

While I dream forever of you,
will you shed a tear for me?
With this long wandering crew,
lost in the wild wind’s lee

Will you shed a tear for me?
Will that candle still burn?
Lost in the wild wind’s lee,
drowned in the sea’s last churn

Will that candle still burn
to the heavens above?
Drowned in the sea’s last churn
I asked my true love
