National Poetry Month – Day 27: Giddy Up Hitch

So today’s prompt was, that’ll put a giddy up in your hitch, and I used a variation on a cascade form for the poem. It’s also a bit dark, so be warned.

Giddy Up Hitch

That’ll put a giddy up in your hitch,
my old grand pappy used to say
And laugh in his own special way.

The words brought a smile to his face,
a touch of glee, a strange little quirk
That’ll put a giddy up in your hitch

I used to stare at him in wonder
But I never understood what
my old grand pappy used to say

Until the police found the bodies
And led him off to jail
Then he laughed in his own special way.
