National Poetry Month Day 14: Wasteland Monolith

Today’s prompt was Wasteland Monolith and I wrote a free verse poem with a touch of form repetition. Enjoy.

Wasteland Monolith

Chiselled stone in a shimmering desert
far beyond the stars we know
Pristine sand, scarred by an alien wind
far beyond the stars we know

Who strode across this desolate wasteland?
Far beyond the stars we know
What is buried beneath its forsaken sands?
Far beyond the stars we know

Yet here we are, travellers, staring in awe
at chiselled stone in a shimmering desert
so far beyond the stars we know
