National Poetry Month Day 8: Angel of Death

So apparently, I chose dark prompts for this Easter weekend. Here’s today’s, Angel of Death, and I wrote a Villanelle.

Angel of Death

Past the soft flutter of wings
at the long end of days;
shadowy emissary of divine kings

Sunset hours, that final toll rings
Exhausted eyes upward, to gaze
past the soft flutter of wings

Where all of humanity clings
Wrapped in their forlorn malaise
Shadowy emissary of divine kings

Dying moment, where hope springs
eternal, upon a temperament’s blaze
past the soft flutter of wings

Until turbulent culmination brings
some peace, entombed in a maze;
shadowy emissary of divine kings

Watch as that pendulum swings,
adrift amid scattered castaways
Past the soft flutter of wings
shadowy emissary of divine kings
